The USA legal drama Suits is currently in its ninth and final season, but if fans think that Meghan Markle is going to make an appearance as Rachel Zane, they are going to be disappointed. Now that she is the Duchess of Sussex and mom to Archie Harrison, Markle is too busy to return to the show, but her on-screen love Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross) is back.

Both Markle and Adams left the show after Season 7 when their characters got married and moved to Seattle. But, Adams is coming back for episode five of the final season, and when the news broke fans immediately started wondering if that meant Markle would also make an appearance.

A familiar face is back from Seattle!

However, Suits creator Aaron Korsch crushed that dream by telling Deadline, “There is always a chance she is going to pick up the phone and call me and say, ‘Can I come back?’ And if she did, she would be welcome back here with arms wide open. But no, l don’t see that happening.”

Mike will be returning this season because he will be part of a case against Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Samantha (Katherine Heigl). Adams says that just because his character is coming back without his wife, it doesn’t mean there’s trouble in the marriage.

“I promise you they’re happy,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “For Mike, this is just a trip to New York. He’s in Seattle, [Mike and Rachel] are building their life together, it sounds like he’s doing well.”

Adams added that it seems that Mike is in a great place, and things are good in Seattle. He says there are phone calls with Rachel where he says “I love you,” and they acknowledge that Markle’s character is still there and part of the show.

The other major storyline that fans can’t wait to see is the romance between Harvey and Donna (Sarah Rafferty). After eight years of flirting and sexual tension, the characters finally became a couple at the end of Season 8, and Macht promises that they won’t break up in the Season 9 premiere.

Macht says that he has always felt they should wait as long as possible to put the two characters together, and when the moment finally came, they put a lot of thought into how it would go down. Rafferty says that they decided it would be “wordless.” When Harvey showed up, Donna could tell by his face that something had changed, and that is why she pulls him in.

Korsch says he was worried Harvey and Donna’s relationship would overshadow the other storylines during the final season. But, it turns out that he loves the two characters together and he had nothing to be afraid of.

In fact, on the most recent episode, Harvey told his mother that Donna is “the one,” and then after some drama with her father, Harvey asked Donna one of the most important questions in the history of the show.

“Donna, you know we’re going to be together forever, right?”

Does this mean Harvey and Donna are engaged? Fans will have to tune in to find out.
