Jaysin Voxx is a singer/songwriter from the Bay Area. He grew up surrounded by music, and has explored the edgier sides of R&B, Rap, and Pop music, and this has ultimately shaped his writing, and stage presence.
At the age of 18, he signed to a Northern California label, but one year later aged 19, Jaysin Voxx realised he needed to be in full control in order to carve out his own path in the music industry. He decided to move to Los Angeles, where he now lives in order to pursue his dreams.
Now, with his latest single ‘Cause Everytime‘ gaining fan and critical acclaim, we speak exclusively to Jaysin Voxx about his music inspirations, touring plans, new album, and much more:
Growing up who inspired your love of music?
I was lucky to come from a very musical family. My moms and pops both sang in the church choir and my sister played piano and organ. I sang for weddings, school talent shows, I sang everywhere! Of course, it came as a big surprise when my parents saw this as my purpose, my life. We never had any connections in the music industry, just the love of music is all, so I’ve had to make everything happen on my own. What inspires me most right now, is a promise I made to my aunt. A few years back, she was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer and said what she wished most was to see me become a big, successful music artist. As she was fading I made her a promise, I will achieve what I set out to do, I’mma grind til I win, and since she couldn’t see me hit the top while on this planet, she’ll witness it all from above when it happens.
Can you remember how old you were when you realised you wanted to pursue music as a career?
Like I was saying, I grew up in a musical family. Ever since I was 6, I’ve sang and performed any chance I got. I knew right away, right away, that first moment singing a solo in church, I knew that was a feeling I needed to feel all the time, that exhilaration, that 500,000 watt jolt.
When writing new songs where do you look to for inspiration?
Inspiration for me is everywhere. Sometimes I’m just going nowhere on the 405 and ideas, hook lines come to me. Sometimes I’m in the shower and I’m singing something dope and I gotta jump out, run across my apartment butt naked just to get the idea down. I have recorders everywhere! All it asks of me is to remember, record, run naked across the room, never let that moment slip away. I mean, no one can write your story better than you. Maybe fans should want more of that truth in today’s pop, maybe they should want more from their artists. With my recent single ‘Cause Everytime’, everything was still so raw, so exposed. Me writing it down was my therapy, it was real, not from a bunch of songwriters in the room…I felt that. As the sun came up, I was good, and the song was incredible.
Which artists are you listening to at the moment?
Bruno Mars has always been one of my faves as well as Flo Rida. I love to check out Rihanna she gets me humming, and what Major Lazer is doing lately is fire! So much great production out there I’m feeling, and so many ways I can VOXX IT OUT!
Who are your all time musical icons?
Off the top, I’d say Prince, George Michael, Michael Jackson are some of my all time favourites! If I wanna be inspired by live [music], I’ll watch Usher, Justin Timberlake, and Bobby Brown. I’ve also always highly respected Puff Daddy for how he handles the game. Hit me Diddy, I’ll push that shit outta some Ciroc.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would you choose?
I’d love to collaborate with Flo Rida! His vibe is always kuhl, the shows are amazing, and I think we’d have a lot of fun voxxin the crowd together! Flo I got a few hooks I know u’d love, holla at ya boy!
Can fans expect an album from you soon?
Yes, yes, most definitely, the album is getting polished as we speak. I’m so lit on how this new crop has turned out, really we are going World Pop and it’s all kinds of sexy!
Do you have any touring plans in the pipe-line?
Yep, tour is on my mind as well. My team and I have been working hard on the line up, the flow, and really what statement we wanna make. I love when I’m at a concert and there are surprises, something on the fly, it doesn’t just sound like iTunes or whatever. My fans are the best, most loyal fans and I will always go beyond to give them all of me. Everyone, go right now to my website and subscribe to get updates on shows and for sneak peaks.
What do you hope to achieve over the next ten years?
Dude, 10 years is a long time, I don’t think I could list all of my plans lol. Um, my short answer would be, run it like Diddy, Ne-yo, Ed Sheeran. Write crazy hits for myself as an artist and blow up, write hits for other artists blow them up, build an empire, and watch the whole world get Voxxed!
